Our Story
The Nielsen Beaumont we know today began in 1979 when Tom Nielsen & Don Beaumont decided to join forces and start a business working on the docks taking care of privately owned boats for people who were out of town. The synergy between the two friends sparked a successful business, and poised them for the opportunity to buy the old Mauricio & Sons boatyard on Shelter Island when it came up for sale in 1988.
From there, they gathered a team of experts around them. Honest, dedicated and experienced individuals gravitated toward the business as Nielsen Beaumont held up its end of the bargain by instituting programs for training and elevating their careers. Many of the team members have been with Nielsen Beaumont for 10, 20 or even 30+ years, which has created a family-like environment throughout the company.
Now over 40 years later, the boatyard has transformed into one of the most technologically advanced, efficient, and environmentally friendly facilities on the West Coast, and Nielsen Beaumont has become a multifaceted defense and government contractor with a growing number of facilities around the United States and abroad.
